On the Mountian

Since I knew this cold front was coming (it was 2 degrees when we woke up this morning!) we decided to spend yesterday enjoying the slightly warmer 20 degree weather and go snowboarding/ skiing.

waiting for the kid to wake up and ski... he's back there somewhere

waking up in a strange and snowy place

Big Smith was sweet and hung out with Little Smith to play in the snow and eat lunch while I got in my first runs of the season. Then we switched and he skied for a bit at the end of the day. I was actually surprised that the conditions were pretty good despite the lack of snowfall. It felt great to be out there and I was pleased that I didn't have the aches and pains that I usually feel at the start of a season. I can only guess that running around and lugging a baby up and down the stairs has kept me in better shape than my old desk job.

I only learned to snowboard about 5 years ago but before the baby we would usually go at least 15 times a season so I'm fairly decent. I'm kind of proud of myself for learning something new as an adult. Kids constantly push themselves to master new skills but once we grow up it seems like we often spend our lives repeating what we are good at and comfortable with and rarely take on the challenge of new things. I'm so happy that I did because it's become such a great family tradition and it's also just fun. We can't wait until next year when Little Smith can at least try to scoot around on skis. Big Smith is an amazing skier, he spend a few years as a ski bum in Colorado so he's been talking about getting our kid(s) on a mountain before we even had any :) It's an obsession. We both have many obsessions/ hobbies but I'm okay with that!

It really was a day for me to be spoiled because I also got to go out to a post-holiday party for my former office. It was actually more of a dinner than a party but the food was great and it was so nice to catch up with everyone. I had a great job with the best little group of people- but of course this one is even better! I stayed out until 1AM drinking wine and chatting. I never do that and I'm really tired today but it was well worth it. A pretty perfect Saturday.

  1. How fun! Glad you guys had a good time! Skiing with the family and then drinks with some old friends sounds like a perfect day.
