Green

Whenever I need a little pick-me-up in these dark winter months, I adopt a plant. Sadly, my track record with plants is uneven at best. I have a habit of withholding water, I'm not sure why, testing their survival skills maybe. Still, we have a few that are tough enough to overcome my neglect, and they put a smile on my face when I most need it. This little jade is our most recent addition. So far so good, I think she needs some pals.

Speaking of green, we're sick... again. I should say I am sick again since I'm the only repeat offender. Now poor Little Smith, who rarely gets sick, has a small fever and hasn't eaten in two days. It's the worst, but I'm just so sick of being sick that there isn't much to say. Things will improve around here soon, and I promise we've got some happier and more exciting adventures in store...

... For now I am hoping to at least be back this week-end with my weekly portrait. I'm hoping Little Smith will be feeling brighter tomorrow so that I can snap a shot of his rosy cheeks. Stay healthy, cozy, and cuddly this week-end.

*oh, and look at this tiny guy helping me out with some ferns last year.

  3. Are jade plants difficult to keep alive? I've managed to kill a few succulents which, people have told me, is practically impossible to do... I do like proving people wrong but not in this instance!

The only plant I seem to be able to keep alive is a philodendron. Those are hearty lil' suckers!

Hope a weekend's rest cures your household! XO.

    1. Yes, they are very easy to care for. I've also done damage to some indestructible potted plants though. My mom an usually nurse them back to life :)

  4. I bought a fern last week and am deeply smitten. (even though buying ferns in dry dry Colorado is almost a joke.) Today, I walked around my favorite local nursery after dropping Sully at school and came home with a bag of paperwhite bulbs. And right now all of my orchids have blooms. Really good stuff! I hope you guys feel better. x,katie

  8. Jade plants are my favorite! I have them everywhere in our house too because they seem to like the light. I have also had really good luck with a staghorn fern-- they seem like your style as well, and are surprisingly less work than I thought they would be (they hang on your wall and you have to soak them maybe once every two weeks for an hour)!

And I hope you feel better soon. You can't seem to catch a break this season with sickness! Feel better, Lilly. :)

  14. My jade plant was one of the first in my family of plants... Although he's been rather neglected of late. I too am an adopter of plants... hardy ones that can survive my inconsistency. I take a deep, lovely breath everytime I see a bit of green in my house. Your blog is lovely
