garden planning family breakfast laundry boat the boss second blooms biggest 13 week belly in history snow morning stroll

*I wanted to thank all of you for your sweet congratulations. It was so wonderful to read each of your comments and feel the warmth of this community, a real treat!*

I realize that posts here have been sparse, adjusting to teaching at night again and trying to find my equilibrium has me generally sliding behind. It's important to me to document and share this time in our lives though, so I will be better! Starting next week... I hope :)

Today is unseasonably warm, it's almost 50 degrees (imagine!). Of course it's also raining on top of snow, and then it's all supposed to freeze.  You just have to love New England. I decided to spend the morning taking a long walk with Little Smith before the rain hit, and it was perfection to feel the fresh air in my lungs without the frigid bite.

My favorite part of winter is usually snow boarding... but my midwife has prohibited me from going this season. I guess the worry is that someone could slam into me or I could catch an edge and have a big tumble. It's a small sacrifice to make and I do it happily, but it does make this winter less thrilling than most. Even the year I gave birth to Little Smith I was on the mountain seven weeks later... it's strange to sit a season out. Spring? Want to come sometime soon? I'm a wee bit bored.

Little Smith is trying to keep me entertained. His latest obsession is sitting in our laundry basket and pretending it's a boat. I played along for a while, paddling along, pointing out fish and ducks that we passed on our journey down the imaginary river... and it was so much fun that now it's almost impossible to get him out. Seriously. This afternoon he spent an hour in there by himself while I cooked lunch. An hour! He was happy as a clam and refused to leave, but I started to wonder at what point this could be considered neglect.

Also, I'm already looking way too pregnant for thirteen weeks. It's kind of exciting to have physical evidence that we are adding this new person to our family (sometimes it seems like a dream), but I still haven't told many people and I'm starting to feel self conscious. With my last pregnancy, I was barely showing even at 5 months, what's going on?! Hopefully it's not just all the bagels I've been eating.

This week-end we are going to my mom's. It's going to be freezing there, but we're in desperate need of a date night out. I've been living in my pajamas and even if I'm still queasy, I'd like to feel pretty for an evening. Happy Friday!... oh wait... it's only Wednesday, oh well, I am prematurely declaring this week over :)

  1. Alice and I just got back from a walk and that warmth in the breeze is making me long for spring already!

Can LS teach Alice how to play by herself for that long?! She won't even give me 1 minute today. Someday I'll miss this clingy stage (I keep reminding myself of this.... ;)

Love that photo of you! I imagine my belly will poke out quickly as I doubt our abdominals are ever the same post-pregnancy. I hope to soon have a reason for my belly to be poking out other than a big dinner! ;-)

    1. The independent play takes time, and you do miss the clingy baby stage (slightly more adorable than a clingy toddler :)). You are brave with your baby fever bubbling before Alice even hits one... go you!

  3. Congratulations on your pregnancy! That must be terrible to feel so sick... my fingers are crossed for you that 14 weeks is the turnaround. Beautiful pictures:)

  4. Oh, so pretty that shot with your belly! I remember showing much earlier with each pregnancy. I think the first ones stretch things out for us! At least you are definitely past the stage of just feeling bloated-- it's clear that you are pregnant! Also? The independent play is wonderful! So, so good for their development. Trust me, you are not neglecting him. If he's happy playing on his own, don't interrupt him because you feel guilty. He'll come find you if he's feeling neglected. :) You are such a great mama.

  7. Love these pics - and your belly is lovely! I looked like an elephant both of the times I was pregnant, but I kind of embraced that too. :-)

  8. Cute little belly! And I popped out waaaay earlier with my second, too. That's just par for the course. Wish I could plan a garden along with you! Such a happy little thing to do.

  9. Enjoy those moments of independent play while you take a moment to relax, he's such an imaginative little guy.

That photo of you with your growing belly is so lovely. While I have only had Isadora, I imagine our bodies are a bit like balloons and once they are stretched out the first time it is easier for any stretching that comes with later pregnancies.

  10. I say if he wants to sit in that basket for an hour, let him! You deserve the break. I love the pregnancy shot. So sweet. Like the others have said, the belly remembers and pops out again. Enjoy it. It's a great time. Oh, and I am waiting for spring too! We have similar weather here.

  11. That belly shot is so incredibly beautiful! Did your husband take it or did you take it of yourself? Just gorgeous! I wish I had at least one good one from one of my 3 pregnancies:(

I wasn't sick at all during my first pregnancy. I was with my second and the third was the worst. Not going for a fourth! Congratulations to you! I just found your blog last week through a comment on bluebirdbaby.

    1. Thank you, I actually took the picture myself with a timer... always tricky but my husband is often not around when the sun is out and it works in a pinch! I didn't take many pictures last time through and want to try more this go around :)

  12. Lilly, I totally sympathize with you about feeling "too big" this time around. I guess what everyone says is true about showing more the second time. And I was all excited to be smaller this time since there's just one baby in there! Haha!

But try to be nice to yourself and eat as many bagels as your heart desires! You look lovely.

p.s. love the pic of little S in his boat. I agree with Lauren - hooray for independent play!

  13. It it pretty crazy how fast you look pregnant the second time around. I was the same way at 13 weeks. Good and bad - you need maternity clothes earlier, but at least this time around people know you are pregnant and not just getting fat (at least that is how I felt!)

  14. Lily, It's been a while since I've stopped by here but so lovely to read your exciting news! Congratulations to the three of you. Your 13 week belly is beautiful. Love the snow and little Smith in the washing basket - such a cute cheeky face he has. x

  16. I have been drooling over the Baker Creek catalog too and your 1st pic is getting me excited to plot out my garden... Planning a garden is something that keeps me going in the winter.
