Before the Snow

We pushed aside our chores and savored the last of fall with a family hike on Sunday afternoon. The smell of winter is definitely in the air, I could feel the snow on its way even on this mild day. Little Smith looked at at the bare tree branches overhead and asked again and again 'air eef go' (where did the leaves go?). I felt a little sad explaining to him that they had gone away until the spring. I do miss them.

We walked until the sun fell behind the hills and the light faded. There just isn't enough time in these short days, between the end of naps and nightfall. When we reached the car it was dark, and as we drove home a little voice called from the back seat, 'air ssss go mama?' (where did the sun go?). I don't know buddy, I could use a little more myself.

  3. I love watching the different seasons - here the days are getting very long and the winter chill has gone from the air. Love seeing a wee boy all bundled up like in that photo with the swing - so cute! x

  4. Gosh he is adorable. The little questions. I can almost hear them the way you explain it.

Is it going to snow? I'm pretending that's not a possibility. ;)

  5. There definitely isn't enough time in these short days. You all were wise to capture what you could and push other thing aside for the day. It looks like a lovely adventure.

In that last picture, Milo asked me, "Where is THAT cool place? I want to walk that plank!" Ar.

  8. Aren't the days just far too short? And I feel tired sooner. I must be preparing for hibernation. Wonderful pics & memories~*

  9. I can just hear his sweet little voice - so cute. I feel the same way about the extremely short window of daytime between the end of nap and dinner. It's really much to short for my liking. I try to run outside and sit in the sun for 10 minutes if I can just to get the full effect.

  10. Oooh, loved this post. So true to this time of year. And how fun is it to be a little person translator? I think it's my favorite thing about motherhood.
