A Stormy Day

We were so lucky that Monday's storm was relatively tame here in Boston, but we still saw some crazy winds and rain. The one happy note was that Big Smith worked from home for the day, the train lines closed early and I was too worried about him driving in the high winds. It was a treat to have him around, and while he did spend most of the day at the computer, he also took Little Smith out for a walk before the weather got really wild.

I was anticipating being a little stir crazy, so I had planned out a few indoor activities to get us through the day. One was learning about colors using our blocks and a library book and Big Smith ended up leading that project. It was pretty adorable to watch, although identifying those colors  is still a work in progress.

We played with puzzles, did a little baking, watched trees blowing from our windows, colored (there may have been a mini drama when I took a shower and Cray Pas made it onto furniture and clothes... and it doesn't come out... I guess it adds character), we even watched a not-too scary part of 'A Nightmare Before Christmas'- love that movie. It was actually a fun day, like a snow day without the snowball fights.

Not having pop around on Tuesday when normal life resumed was extra sad. Little Smith kept shrugging and looking around asking 'air dada go?' and whining when I told him dada was at work. He settled back into our regular rhythm on Wednesday, just in time for Halloween mischief!

Of course we are still thinking of those who were affected by the storm, wishing you all a swift recovery.

  2. We missed the high winds {though it did get really cold}. Love your gorgeous pics-- so cute! {pastels, crayolas, sharpies & markers all definitely add character to whatever they touch, no worries}.
Oh & I have pre-election jitters too! Argh!

  3. We were lucky too. Just high winds in Toronto area. Lovely pictures. Looks like a cozy day at home. I am getting so used to things getting marked up in this house. I would prefer they didn't still though! ;)

  4. Oh blimey - so glad you are all OK. It's such a worry when a storm is brewing and even more so when you know it's coming your way.

    take care,

  6. Dear Mama Smith,

I just discovered your blog a few weeks ago and I absolutely enjoy reading your anecdotes about your days, yummy recipes, and overall, just how awesome being a momma is! This Christmas Eve (unless the baby chooses to come before/after) I will become a first time mommy!!! This is by far the most significant, important and forever cherished time I'm living as I take on the biggest role in my life yet. I can't wait to see my baby and hold him in my arms, I have so much love for him, a love I can't explain nor that I have ever felt before.

I just want to thank you for this blog you've made, it's so inspiring and uplifting. I love the photography both of your lovely family and the places you've traveled too and are surrounded by. Your garden is awesome!!! I hope to have one someday.

May God bless you and your family always.

  7. I thought about getting that movie out this week but I didn't do it... One thing I like about Nightmare before Christmas is that it's good for both holidays, though! I'm glad you all were relatively unscathed by the storm.

  9. Oh my goodness- the nemo hat is just too lovely! Ben is eight and (strangely), we sat and watched Nemo again tonight (I say again as it's a firm fav). To answer your question, we didn't use any colour/ editing effects for the first photo (other than adding a border); the light was amazing that day and we were lucky enough to capture it. We take photos on one of our Iphones (Steve has a more recent version than me but I have no idea which one- I have no interest in technology). When we do play with colour etc we just use the photo+ app which costs about 60p! We'd love a better camera but, with another buba on the way, it's just not a priority. From what I can gather, Instagram is very similar to camera+ if you want to use that for your editing.Rxxx

    1. Thanks- you know I didn't even realize it was a Nemo hat (just thought it was a fish hat)... but I was educated by the kids on Halloween :) So yes, he is in fact Nemo!

Your pictures looked great, very impressed you could get that quality with an iphone- I use mine sometimes too and lately I actually think it's almost as good as my real camera as long as there is bright light.
