Bench For A Pair

I made this bench a number of year's ago; laminating layer after layer of solid cherry before attacking the piece with a chainsaw and then carefully chiseling and sanding away... it is a heavy hunk of wood. I was interested in the relationship between the body and furniture and spent time studying people sitting, how it varied between groups, couples, and individuals. Ultimately I designed the bench specifically for 'my man' and myself... pair that we are.

  1. oh this is beautiful, you are so clever ... I always wanted to be an architect, then for some reason changed my mind in my last year at school to study French ... it is definitely what I should have done, and something I would change if I had the chance to do it again, but you can't regret, I wouldn't be who I am today with my lovely, understanding husband and 3 precious children ...

  2. So cute! It reminds me of old courting couches from the Victorian era, only done for these modern times-- very, very clever!
