Birthday Bangs

I am officially closer to forty than thirty and may just be falling into a mid-thirties crisis. I'm kind of freaking out about getting old! It's such an embarrassing cliche, and I entered my thirties with all kinds of confidence and not a single twinge of wishing back those twenties. I'm not sure that I will be able to exit this decade with that same grace... but I guess I have a solid four years to prepare.

Today's plans include picking up Little Smith from school (I'm late!) heading to our favorite veggie cafe, a little gardening in this glorious sunshine, and then James is joining us for dinner (baked potato bar- yum!). If I have to get older then I suppose I might as well enjoy the day.

*and after years of James begging for a return to bangs, I finally caved. i sort of love them and sort of think it was a huge mistake! ;)

  1. Happy Birthday, Lilly! You look wonderful, I love the bangs on you and have secretly been hoping you'd go for it for a year now :)

As for getting older, I feel twinges of freak-out feelings as well, but generally I think about how much more confident I have become with age. I wouldn't trade that feeling for a flatter tummy or fewer wrinkles, honestly. Also, you don't look a day over 30, so live it up!

    1. Thank you Lauren! James has been rooting for the bangs too... I always say I like them with my hair up but it's too much 'hair' when it's down, and then he recently pointed out that I NEVER wear it down anyway :) And all my promises to try out braids etc. always go by the wayside too, at least now I've got something going on in the hair department. I'm such a chicken!

  2. Happy happy birthday!! I know those twinges very well. But I agree with Lauren, you don't look your age, so enjoy your youthful glow :) I think my favorite blogger ladies are the ones that are my age with adorable kiddos and pretty rad lives, anyhow! Cheers!

    1. Ah thanks, I'm not even sure what 36 looks like but I definately have a gray hair / wrinkle or two these days - yikes! And I agree, nothing like a good blogger peer group :)

  3. Happiest of Birthdays to you! The bangs are beyond adorable. And trust me-- as someone who has crossed the line into the big 4-0, life is groovy on the other side!

    1. Thank you! I know 40 isn't as scary as it seems, but this aging thing just kind of snuck up on me ;)

  4. Happy Birthday! The bangs look great. Every time I mention bangs my stylist just shakes his head. My hair is too unruly for bangs. I had trouble with 40 but now I often just forget how old exactly I am. Is that bad or good? ;)

    1. I totally forget how old I am too! I couldn't remember if I was turning 36 or I already was 36... a sure sign that I'm getting old right!? :)

    2. Maybe we are just so wise, we don't focus on age anymore! ;)

    1. Thanks Kellie! I love the word 'fringe'. Someone mentioned that on instagram and it just sounds way cooler than bangs ;)

  6. Happy Birthday Lilly ! You look great with your cute little girl.
I passed 40 last year and I do have grey hair so I already have to dye it but you know, the kids keep me so busy that I don't have time to think about it. I hope the kids also keep my young ;-)

    1. Thanks so much Natalie, I have considered dying my hair, but don't feel I have enough time for that! Anymore gray hairs and I will have to take the plunge... and here is to hoping kids keep us young!

    1. Ha yes, the instagram debut! I actually took that picture with no make-up and then threw on some lipstick for this important blog appearance, so it's a before and after ;) Thank you for the hair love!
