Changes

This has been an unusual summer for our little family: short on our typical camping trips, beach visits, and long afternoons relaxing with cold beverages. Instead we have been working on embracing big changes.

I've discussed the biggest change quite a bit in this space of course, being pregnant and now welcoming our baby girl. We are all so happy to have her here and love her to pieces. Even though this new little person has meant a giant adjustment to our daily schedules, it's been effortless to accept, because... look at her!

The other significant change, one that I haven't mentioned here, is that James is in the midst of moving jobs. He had spent seven long years with his previous firm and his new position is a big and exciting departure from the work he has done so far. There will be lots of new challenges, and it was certainly crazy to find ourselves making these decisions and leaps of faith right when we were having a baby (literally!), but it is also thrilling. I'm really proud of him.

He starts his new job next week (Little Smith will also be starting preschool two mornings a week- more change!). I know that he is going to rise to all of those challenges brilliantly and I'm looking forward to hearing all of the stories. I'm not looking forward to the long days, both because I'll miss him and because I'm still adjusting to my own new job as mama-of-two... but I have confidence in myself too. We will find a rhythm, and I'll slowly get my rhythm back with this journal as well (no recipes all summer, yikes... they're coming).

Thanks to everyone for reading, commenting, and sending all of your kind wishes despite my spotty posting. I'm still not at all ready to say goodbye to summer, but I am looking forward to a fall full of hopeful new beginnings.

  1. She is beyond gorgeous, as is your family. May congrats on all the changes (life keeps rolling-- beautiful ain't it?). And no worries about the recipes (though my cupboard is looking a bit bare...ahem...no pressure though).

  3. The pictures are so beautiful - lovely family moments. I hope that James enjoys the new job and that Little Smith loves preschool. I think it's nice for him to get out and hang with others, and it gives you time to focus on baby. :)

And wow, you are going through a lot of changes all at once. Here's hoping for a smooth transition, and try not to be too hard on yourself. The blogging world will be here when you're ready!

  7. Gorgeous family portraits! I'm looking forward to your recipes. I have no excuses for falling off of blogging lately, it's just been a rough season. At least you have one huge excuse! And what a darling excuse she is :)
