Twenty Eight Weeks

Welcome to the third trimester. This pregnancy is really picking up speed and I know that the next few months are going to be quick ones. I am getting to that place where I really feel pregnant; I'm only comfortable lying down down in a fortress of pillows (the worst part of that is no middle of the night cuddles :( it's like summiting Everest to find each other), I get winded much more quickly than just a week ago, and I have punches and kicks saying hello all through the day... and night.

Although it keeps me awake at night, I actually love that this little girl is such a mover, she's already demanding my attention! Little Smith never moved that much, just a chill guy. That probably wouldn't worry me now, but with my first pregnancy I worried about everything, and lack of movement was on that list.

I'm still craving sweets and sugar. I mentioned this to my midwife, hoping she would endorse my continued indulgences, but instead she did encourage me to eat more healthfully. I am eating healthy foods, just capped off with chocolate bars and ice cream and cookies... isn't that okay?

Now that I'm entering the final leg of this journey, I'm really trying to appreciate each moment. This could be my last pregnancy, and while there are lots of uncomfortable side effects, it's truly is such a magical, insane, and fleeting time. I'm also enjoying those little slices of peace; an hour of silence during nap time, the stillness just after I've tucked Little Smith into bed... I know I'm about to say goodbye to those quiet moments for a while. I'm already tired thinking about it, but also so excited for those teeny tiny newborn cries.

    1. Congratulations to you as well Barbara, we're in the home stretch! Hopefully you can steal a little extra rest in the next couple months, not so easy with a toddler as I know. I'm due on August 7th... but since LS arrived a whole month early, I'm taking that due date with a big grain of salt ;)

  2. Yes! It's okay! I think if you are eating healthfully, you should also have a sweet treat. I know I did during my pregnancies! You look amazing, and I am sighing remembering how fleeting pregnancy is. And it's always easier for us to look back longingly on something like pregnancy, and forget how rough it can be.

I can't believe you are already in the third trimester! How did that happen?

    1. I know, I missed being pregnant when it was over last time ( of course my friends who went 42 weeks didn't share that sentiment!), and I promised myself that I would appreciate each moment the next time around. It's tough though because there are all of those little challenges. I know I'll be missing it when I'm done all over again :)

    1. Huh, I wonder if it's a girl thing? This one definately rarely takes a break... just hope that doesn't mean she'll never sleep once she gets here!

    1. I agree, it has gone by so quickly. Well I guess the whole first trimester of perpetual queasiness felt long, but it's raced by since then :)

    1. I know, getting close... thanks so much! I'm super excited to have a girl, but boys are so amazing too and it must be such fun (and work!) to have a tribe of them. I bet they really entertain eachother.

  12. I second (& third) the girl movers-- both my girls were kickers, punchers and forever wedging themselves uncomfortably in my rib cage, while my son was completely mellow. So excited for you!!!! And Ruthie got it right-- now is the time to indulge the cravings-- what baby wants, baby gets lol!

  13. The third trimester already? Wow! If I was your midwife I would say go ahead! Eat all the chocolate you want! I guess I wouldn't be such a great midwife. ;)

Also, can't wait to see how W and baby girl's room come together!

  14. Pregnancy looks beautiful on you. I think if you are eating such a healthy diet in general than sweets are not too much of a problem, right? And soon you'll have all of that great food from the garden to balance things out even more.
