His Cat

How this boy loves his cat. He starts each morning with the same question, 'where'd cat go?'. When she is spotted, usually curled and sleeping in the covers, he lights up with a wild smile.

He cuddles her, gives her kisses and pets, and chases her through the house with joyous exclamations of 'caaat!'.

When he refuses to nap in his own crib, I bring him into our bed where the cat is always resting in the sun. He lies next to her and lets his eyes close, lifting his head again and again to make certain she is there before drifting off to sleep.

Cat is ten years old, and keeping up with a toddler is tough work. She often runs, tries to find a quiet perch where she can have some peace and a little escape. But just when I've decided that this is a one way love affair, I will find her walking over to where he sits busy with his trains, nuzzling her face into his arm with her own little kiss. When he sleeps, she lays a gentle paw across his belly. They are quite the pair, this boy and his cat.

  1. This is so sweet. I love the joy on little W's face! It almost makes me want to get a pet (besides the fish) for our kids. ALMOST.

  2. So very sweet! I think having animals around when kids are growing up is super important and helps teach empathy. W sure loves his kitty!

  5. Alice is OBSESSED with my two cats... and one of them is definitely not fond of her and scurries away if they are within feet of one another. The other one is much more tolerant and will let Alice snuggle and pet her to a degree. But if she starts tugging on her tail? That cat is outta there.

  8. A darling pair! That's why I insisted on getting another dog, against my husband's will -because I always had pets growing up. I admit, though, it's harder when you are the parent, the one who has to care for and clean up after the pet! ;)
