Today is my birthday, I'm now officially as close to 40 as I am to 30 and I'll be honest that it's just a little scary! These years are flying away from me, but I have so much to celebrate and to be grateful for that I won't let a little thing like aging get me down.
We had a fun week-end full lots of small celebrations. The boys made me a cake from scratch. They used this recipe (which I may have hinted would be just the cake) and it was moist lemony deliciousness. I only assisted by separating the egg whites, James is not a baker and wasn't even sure what 'egg white' meant'. They did such a good job.
On Sunday we went to a friend's barbecue and brought along cup cakes iced with leftover frosting from the cake (the recipe made a crazy amount of frosting). We've officially hit our quota on baked goods for the month... maybe.
I will be spending this birthday morning at the DMV, trying to renew my license which expires today, clear up a discrepancy with my name (?), and entertain a wiggly toddler. The day can only go up from there, nothing like waiting until the last minute!
Happy birthday to you! I discovered your blog few times ago and I love it. You have beautiful family. Solène from Paris.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Solene, Paris is one of my favorite cities, I'm jealous!
DeleteNo WAY do you have to spend your birthday at the DMV. There may be a law against that!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Lilly. You are an amazing woman, remarkable blogger, and talented artist. I am honored to "know" you!
P.S.- You look beautiful with that round moon of a belly!
You would not believe how long we were at that DMV either... the whole day! Thank you for all of the kind words, so generous and lovely.
DeleteHappy Birthday!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! That cake looks delicious:)
ReplyDeleteIt was delicious, and not too heavy either, thanks Erika.
DeleteHappy Birthday! That cake looks amazing. Hope your day is great. Welcome to 35!
ReplyDeleteI'm still a little shocked with this 35 thing, I think it's the 'advanced maternal age' that the midwives are now labeling my pregnancy that's pushing it over the edge :) Thanks Ruthie.
DeleteHappy Birthday! Yay for cake and your loves taking such good care of you. xo
ReplyDeleteI know, lucky me :) Thank you Katie.
Deletehappy birthday! yum, that caked looked delicious! and you look so cute; what a sweet bump.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm kind of surprised when I see that bump in photos that I'm so pregnant, somehow it feels smaller in person :)
DeleteHappy Happy Birthday!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteHappy Birthday! What thoughtful boys you have. And you look absolutely beautiful, as always.
ReplyDeleteThank you Allison, I'm quickly outgrowing all of my clothes so we'll see how beautiful I look in the coming months, I'm thinking muumuus and flip flops :)
DeleteHappy birthday Lilly, cakes made with love are the best aren't they? So bright and pretty too x
ReplyDeleteWelcome to thirty! It is more glorious than you might think! Love all of these photos but it is so sweet to see Little Smith on your lap! Love it. xo
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday!!! Love the photo of your mummy tummy and your son :))
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a wonderful birthday, despite the DMV (that place should be outlawed!) ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm actually going to tip the scales officially by being much closer to 40 than 30 this summer. Yikes!
Also, you look beautifully pregnant.
xo

That cake looks so delicious and how sweet that it was made for you by your boys. And that round beautiful belly and glorious hair? You are all sorts of gorgeous and wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely cake! Happy Birthday! I fear the birthdays too. I know I shouldn't (the alternative not being ideal) but I can't help it. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday, Lilly! You and your belly and your hair- so beautiful. Sorry to hear you spent your day at the DMV. Yuck. Hope you have an excellent year!
