a portrait of my child once a week, every week, in 2013

Checking out the progress in his new room. I think he's worried that we aren't going to finish on time, and I can't blame him!

Work has been slow. We completed the tiny little closet and cleared most everything out of the room, but there is a ton left to get done; the old ceiling fan is currently stuck and only half dismantled, the walls need paint, the craigslisted dresser needs paint, the big boy bed needs to be constructed and painted too, shelves to hang, window shades to cut and hang, bench to build, and on and on...

I've put the list in order of priorities with the understanding that it just might be possible that not everything will be completed before the baby gets here. Little Smith won't be moving into this new room until the fall, but I really don't want to have too many big projects looming with a newborn- I know how that works! With my last pregnancy I got a manic burst of energy right about now and finished a lot on my own, I'm waiting for that to kick in and crossing my fingers that we can make it happen. I'm a person that really needs to have my space feel right to be balanced, so my center is just a little lopsided at the moment (and it's not just this beach-ball of a belly!).

  2. Needing your space to feel right, balanced - I totally get that! Things have a way of falling into place.

  3. I'm sure you will get done (as much as needs to be done anyway). You are so right - you don't want to give yourself extra work after baby comes.

    What a sweet portrait. :)

  4. Haha, I so relate to this! We swapped bedrooms for our boys just before Finaly was born, then ended up swapping back when he was about 8 weeks! Stressful but the change hadn't worked for us and, like you, I needed to get the balance back!

  7. oh i know how you feel! if it makes you feel any better, our nursery has the ceiling fan on all day long to dry out the new plaster on one wall (had to have it done since the last people in our house left the wall in a MESS after taking off wallpaper)...and one lonely cot sits sadly by the other wall. and that's it -- and our baby is due end of july. ouch. i feel itchy about it all...but there's nothing i can do! (just yet!)

but i do understand your extra need since little smith will be sharing the room. you'll get it all done in time. we both will! x

  8. He is so beautiful.

I was the same before Izzy was born as we had to totally redo her room, new wood flooring and all and I couldn't stand not being able to get it all done myself. Wishing you much success with getting it all done even with the beautiful weather tempting you outside. :)

  9. Beautiful shot! He looks like a doll.

And I am the same way. When things are half-finished it makes me crazy! Especially indoors, where you have to look at or walk past something just looming over your head. You'll get it done in time! And have faith that those nesting instincts will kick in too... just don't exhaust yourself, lady. :)

  10. You'll get it done! But I do second Lauren-- don't wear yourself out. After all, the baby won't care if its perfect!
