Details B2.02

cat loves her grass a little too much playmates greens in winter 15 weeks family brunch cherub valentine if i told you why he was laughing, this would be way less cute :)

Aaack, I am so behind on everything. This is a little of last week and a little of our long weekend, always a treat. The tail end of last week was beautiful, mid-forties and sunny. Little Smith did (and still does) have a cold, but it was just too nice not to spend as much time as we could outdoors. We visited our favorite farm and did naps during a couple of long strolls. Luckily our stroller is a beast, because we were off-roading in snow drifts (and in-the-middle-of-the-roading) most of the time.

The week-end brought more snow, beautiful but too cold and wet for a boy with a cough and a runny nose. We spent a lot of time by the fire, and a lot of time dealing with insane melt-downs. Little Smith is suddenly full on terrible two's. I think his might be even more terrible than average... he's just so frustrated and bossy. Meal times, which have generally been a joy, have become a total nightmare. The second he sees the food he bursts into tears, screaming 'no', turning away from his plate, and demanding doughnuts (his name for muffins) or cake. I'm not giving in, but I have to say there is a part of me that just wants to give him a piece of cake and be done with it!

I'm hoping some of his poor attitude has to do with being sick, really hoping. It's an exhausting switch from my sweet boy to this unhappy dictator, James and I keep alternating between worry and just laughing at the drama. We're trying to remain calm, it will pass. Plus he still has plenty of very bright giggly moments mixed in there... the dark ones are just so much louder.

Tonight I'll be scrambling to meet a few deadlines. James and I are working side by side in front of the fire, so that's not too shabby. I'm feeling better, stronger, only the occasional passing bout of nausea instead of an all day fog. Now if only I could sleep! Hopefully I'll get some of that tonight too.

  1. Ohhh, the tantrums. It's hard to think clearly in the midst of the screaming. I hope his mood returns to happy again once he starts feeling better.

His hair is so wild and fantastic! I love how swirly it is in the picture with his little back showing. Also, oh my goodness. Tiny baby shoulderblades kill me dead with the cute.

So funny about your cat! Her little clumps almost look like organized chaos.

And the picture of the greenhouse has me wishing for farmers markets to pop back up so I can buy some soft buttery lettuce again.

    1. Yes that hair is nuts! I do brush it, but it's so fine that he makes it crazy seconds later. If I don't wash it for a few days it l looks more under control :)

  2. My son (20 months) has had weird periods of tantrums surrounding dinner. Sometimes he's the world's best eater, and then he will switch on a dime and refuse to eat anything but muffins or fruit. Luckily the tantrumy days don't last, and he comes back to his normal self pretty quickly:) Good luck!

  3. Lovely bits and pieces from your life Lilly, even if you have some sickness and tantrums in the house. Your baby tummy looks lovely and that big glass house is beautiful. Is it baby vegetables growing in there? x

  5. It's such a lovely feeling when the nausea settles and you really start to enjoy...without being ill.

I love that last picture - such an infectious smile.

  6. Hang in there! The fascism phase shall pass. Well, unless he is like my youngest daughter who is now 15 but still a dictator. Laughing at it is the best thing {& I know how tempting it is to give in, but stay strong sista!} I'm sure all the changes you are physically going through with the new baby-to-be isn't making it any easier. Sending good vibes your way!!

  8. such sweet pictures. I am sorry about the tantrums and the exhaustion. It is always hard when they aren't quite old enough to tell us what they really need and what is truly going on. Hang in there! xo

    1. Thanks Rebecca, I think you're right that not being able to communicate fully is part of the frustration/ problem. This too shall pass :)

  9. Oh, man. Remind me that it will pass! We are going through the same things over here, and even though I've been through it before, it is hard to remember that it is just a phase. Trying to be patient when you're not feeling well is an exercise in sainthood.

Glad to hear you are able to keep a sense of humor about it all! That is key! :)

    1. We're trying to laugh as much as we can, there's not much choice... there's something pretty funny about a furious toddler-right?

  11. Oh goodness. These phases can frustrate everyone so much! We've gone through quite a few phases around here that really want me to tear my hair out. And it gets harder to stand firm when #2 comes around, so stand your ground while you can! Lovely pictures, and I love seeing your little bump grow.

  12. It's nice to hear that we're not the only ones bouncing between utter frustration and worry to playfulness and laughter. Oh, these kiddos sure do know how to press every last button, don't they? "He may be a total nutjob, but he's got good hair so that's something..." quote of the week from our home. It seems as though W shares Ezra's insanity and also completely adorable locks! :) These boys...

  13. I dread the terrible twos with Alice as she already seems to be an opinionated and bossy person at almost 11-months! But, you're right... It'll pass!

Your baby bump is beautiful! XO.
