Away

We spent a chilly three days at my mom's, lots of fires and food and giggles and a few tantrums... a perfect winter get away. I didn't take many photos, and wasn't there to document the most exciting moment of the week-end, Little Smith went skiing for the first time! James took him to the mountain each morning and eventually coaxed him to give his tiny skis a shot. He had trouble finding the strength to keep his legs together, but with pop's help he officially skied. February 3rd, 2013... mark you calendars, it's going in the books!

We also went on two dates. We are too wimpy to have the stamina for both dinner and a movie in the same evening so we spread it out over two nights. We hadn't been to the movies since before Little Smith was born. I always justify that it's really no different to watch Netflix at home, but it's actually completely different. It was fun to get out together, just the two of us. I think we spent most of our dinner talking about strategies for disciplining an increasingly willful toddler (not the most romantic I know), but it was just refreshing to be out in the real world after nightfall.

I am still having good and bad days with feeling sick, but my food aversions are diminishing so I do think the general trend is on the upswing. I'm still not up to cooking anything too elaborate and that really is frustrating in the depths of winter when a warm stove is generally so comforting. It feels good to be welcoming February, I have a good feeling about this month!

  6. Date nights are so lovely. Even if they are few and far between. N & I often skip the movies so we get a chance to talk (often saying we will see it on Netflix) but recently we realized we had only been to a handful of movies together...some when we weren't even dating. Sigh. Your pics are lovely, even if you aren't feeling so energetic. They capture little smiths JOY and the winter chill of the berkshires. so lovely. xxoo

  8. So glad to hear that you are beginning to feel better! Date nights are so essential (even if you do spend most of the time talking about your little one as we normally do as well). The husband and I have not been to a movie since our little guy was born using a similar justification, but it would definitely feel special to catch a flick together. Beautiful photos (as always).
