a warm and foggy winter's day, new york / january 13, 2013

We are freshly back from our trip to New York. We had a great time catching up with my cousin and her baby who were in town from Chicago, and we ended up staying longer so that I didn't have to brave week-end traffic, and just because we could. I took almost no pictures, went for lots of long walks in the fog, tried to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather without worrying that winter will be a thing of the past in a few generations, and indulged in having a TV in my room and an en suite bathroom all to myself. Of course Little Smith was crazy excited to see his dad when we got home (and I was pretty excited too!), but we had fun on our mini solo adventure.

I am a little disoriented and feel like it should be Friday, but it's only Tuesday. Being a single parent through the week-end always tuckers me out for the next week and reminds me of how lucky I am to typically get that two day break from being responsible for every diaper, every meal, every whine and complaint. I'm also once again behind on all responsibilities, so much for catching up!

  1. This warm weather is so unnerving! I did a run yesterday in a tank top and running tights and was boiling-hot. So not good for the middle of January.

And I am wishing it were Friday already! Here's to hoping for a speedy Tues/Wed/Thurs. : )

  2. Lilly, I feel you, mama! Sometimes a vacation is actually so much more work when you have a kid... but I'm glad that you had a little adventure and made it back safe and sound. And responsibilities... oh, if you could see my house right now. :)

  4. Yay for making it home safe & I'm with you on the weird weather {& what it may mean a generation from now}. Take some time to settle in & reconnoiter before jumping in. & I totally get points for using reconnoiter in a blog post comment...

  5. Sounds like a perfect trip! The weather has me concerned, too, but it's good to put aside concerns for a while.

  6. Happy to hear that you two had an enjoyable trip! Doing the solo parenting thing for any length of time always makes me appreciate my partner all the more!
