This week was jammed full of me trying to get back to a normal schedule and stay on top of everything, and falling just a bit short. Things are still feeling sort of off pace, but at least I've been cooking again after a break and (thanks to James) our laundry is all squared away.

I am thinking it may take a few more weeks to really get back into my groove. 2013 can just start in February, which actually is my favorite month of the winter (and I'm already thinking about Valentine's Day because I really love it. I know that makes me a huge dork but it's just my favorite holiday and I don't care!).

Tomorrow Little Smith and I set off on our very own mini road trip, just to my family in New York, but anytime I'm behind the wheel for over an hour it's a momentous occasion. I didn't get my licence until I was 25 and to say I am not a fantastic driver may be an understatement. I have improved a lot in the last couple of years, but my sense of direction is abysmal. In fact I've just returned from a little gathering with my former coworkers that took place less than a mile from my house, and I managed to get hopelessly lost on the way home, ending up two towns over. I don't know how I do it, but I'm crossing my fingers that Little Smith naps and I stay on course.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  2. Have a fabulous trip - I'm the same with driving I like the freedom, but I'm not very confident plus it completely takes everything out of me. I guess that's all the concentration.

    Have fun,

  3. LOL I am the same way with directions, in that I have none. I got lost in our downtown recently & ended up on the interstate for no apparent reason, going in the wrong direction. Sigh. Still, it makes life interesting! Good luck & safe arrival {& looking forward to beautiful pics of your weekend adventures!}

  4. Oh, Lilly! I am feeling the same way about 2013 so far... I say we do a re-do and start it in February!

    And good luck on your trip! I was a little late getting my license as well, and embarrassed to say that it was my little brother who finally taught me how to drive on our family car (stick-shift, of course!). Anyway, here's hoping for a relaxing drive and lots of napping along the way (for W, not you!).

  5. Boston and it's outer neighborhoods are not easy to navigate through so give yourself a break. Have a safe trip and reboot the year as needed!

  6. Yum! I want some of that tofu and noodles.

    All the best for your trip. I got my license in my twenties too, because I was so afraid to take the test. I think it is good to take a trip on your own now and then. Otherwise, driving becomes more intimidating.

    Have a great time!

  7. Safe travels! Enjoy :) Is that an amaryllis bulb about to bloom? Love those. I have been driving since I was 16 and I can STILL get hopelessly lost very close to home. Especially when our home changes every year! You have some lovely light in your home!

  9. Good luck on your road trip! You'll be fine: the more you drive the better you get! I didn't get my license until I was 30 and now I am cruising cross country. Just pay attention to the road, even if Little Smith wants your attention. Safe travels! :)

  10. I such at driving - and I know why (because I´m terrified by the other people in the trafic). I´ll do anything to avoid driving myself, but it feels OK if someone else is in charge. :-)

  12. I hope you're trip is going well and that you didn't get too lost along the way! :) I'm also terrible with directions, but I find that blaming it on a lack of spacial reasoning makes me feel better about it! Ha!
