hiding lingering pumpkin toddler lunch daddy style winter yard new kitchen trains no-cook snack finding a home for lots of toys

I am sitting here by the light of the Christmas tree and I am so ready for it to be gone. We are waiting until the week-end and I'm trying to enjoy its beauty, but it's dry as a bone and I'm all set to bid the holidays goodbye. I never feel like cleaning in the spring, but I always get the itch this time of year to organize and reshuffle. We need to find some new storage solutions for toys and I'm also obsessing over a mini bathroom make-over... but first things first this tree has to be un-decorated and lugged out of here!

I have been adjusting to the new very wintry weather. It's cold and snowy and much more challenging than last year, when Little Smith happily complied as I shoved him into his snowsuit. Now there's a lot of 'no outside mama' at the mere suggestion of boots. Once I force him out there, he does enjoy himself... but it's not a battle I'm willing to wage multiple times a day. We're keeping busy with craft projects and books and games, but this really is a long season here in New England.

This week-end there will be more fun in the snow for sure (I already have a massive backlog of snow pictures accumulating), and hopefully some organizing inside as well. Happy Friday!

  1. That little toddler lunch looks amazing. Alice is currently refusing to eat EVERYTHING except pear and banana. That's it! She wants nothing to do with foods she ate last week. She's stong-willed and stubborn, that's for sure (it's a wonder where she got those traits!;)

Did Little Smith ever give you eating troubles?

    1. Yes, he did and still does! He was really good at first, but at about 10 months he got sick and after that refused almost everything for months. He lost weight and is already small and I was so worried. I made him all kinds of food and finally got him to eat muffins. It was pretty maddening, but he grew out of it and while he is still picky and changes his mind, he's pretty decent. I usually just give him a small portion of whatever I'm eating, James is more indulgent and makes cute little meals for him :) Don't worry, just keep trying things and eventually she will broaden her horizons. It can be really frustrating!

    2. Hmmm... maybe I'll make her some muffins! Good idea. Hope she grows out of this soon.

(I tried giving her what I was eating this AM, which was scrambled eggs with chopped spinach.. something she's gobbled up before and she wasn't having it. So I ate hers plus my portion! That seems to be happening a lot lately. ;-)

  3. Lilly.. I think we're a lot alike in some ways. I may or may not have talked Craig into taking the tree down on Christmas night. It felt a little nutty at the time, but when I woke up the next morning and he had already returned it to the woods? I felt fantastic. And I think Gus and Little S might be similar, too! "No, mama. Cold. Wet." And sometimes he even throws an eye roll my way! Have fun this weekend. Enjoy the snow.

  4. I can so relate, I feel the urge to clean and organize every early spring! Hubby carried the tree outside as I wrote on my blog - I swear half of it ended up on the floor at the same time... I´ve never had a tree that dropped so many needles before, it was insane! :-D

  5. You can send some snow over this-a-way. We've had a few dustings, but we are missing a real white winter! I took the tree & decorations down last weekend {yay!}-- its all I can do not to take it down the 26th of December lol!

  7. We did a massive purge before Christmas, and now that the littles have been completely spoiled by family, it's apparent that I need to do it again! I love the pictures of Wyatt playing, he looks like he's a concentrated player. Oh, and snow! Can't wait to see all your snow pictures. I just did a huge dump of snow pictures from visiting back home :) You can send your snow here, it's unfortunate how little snow middle Missouri gets.

  8. I was SO ready to pack up all the xmas decorations and take out our tumbleweed of a tree! It feels so good to get the house back in order - organization has been HIGH on my list of priorities. ;)

  10. What a great little play kitchen! My boys get a lot of use out of ours.

I was so annoyed when we came home after traveling to find our Christmas tree still... there. But Andrew surprised me when I went out to grab a cup of coffee. Took the whole thing down, including all the stockings and other junk. Ready to move on! Happy weekend!

  11. Oh my, I couldn't get the tree and decorations put away fast enough. I do enjoy them for a short while, but prefer to clean things up and look forward to a fresh slate. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

  12. I'm with ya! We were ready to move on and get to organizing New Year's morning! This has been a wonderful holiday season for us, but I think most people need some time to decompress and regroup after all the goodness and chaos that is this time of year. We're also struggling with the winter weather vs. toddler needs. Signing Ezra up in a couple of classes throughout the week has saved my sanity these last couple of months. We're able to get out of the house, socialize, and hopefully gain some skills. With these bitterly cold days I've learned there's only so much reading, playing, crafting that I can manage indoors! Here's to warmer weather and happy toddlers!
