White Light

We didn't get anywhere close to tackling all our 'to-do's' this week-end, but we did finally get our tree up! Just the lights so far.

I always go with a fraser fir, and love a tall and skinny tree. I also like the ones that aren't trimmed on the edges to be a perfect cone (and luckily that pile of skinny 'wild' trees is half the price of the other's... I think we are the only one's to give them love.)

I grew up with white lights only, we used to have these fantastic vintage bulbs with little vials of water on top that bubbled when they got warm. Those eventually bit the dust, but I found these 'balls' a few years ago that give my white lights an extra sparkle.

As for ornaments, I have a layer of glass icicles (that I am debated not using this year because of the curious toddler), and then lots of eclectic ornaments... no themes for me.

Of course my cousin thinks it's not Christmas without a short fat tree and colored lights, and my dad only likes the large size colored lights. It can be a divisive topic this tree decorating, even more so if you add the option of the fake tree (that's a pot I've never dipped my spoon in.)

The holiday spirit is slowly spreading through our house, next ornaments and stockings, then bring on the Christmas cookies!

  1. I love it too.

Isn't that just the funniest part of growing up and having your own little family - making what-kind-of-tree-we-want decisions?

Just my 0.2 cents worth of totally irritating unsolicited advice - hang those ornaments, baby! He'll love it and he'll learn. You might lose a few, but he'll learn and you won't mind too too much because he's your most precious ornament of all!

(He IS sooooo precious. I love his mouth.)

Show us some more outfits! weeeeeeee

  2. Love the light-balls! So pretty.

I love a real tree, too, but struggle with the waste aspect! But is a fake tree any better if it eventually gets tossed in a landfill? There is a company in LA that does potted trees and then, when Christmas is over, they take the tree back and care for it over the year and then you get the SAME tree back the next year! How cool, right?!

    1. From what I've read, the fake trees are definately worse for the environment. It is wasteful though, and I know people who get the live trees and plant them but they're usually smallish and really expensive. I just toss aside my principles and go for it :)

    2. I hope my comment didn't come off as preachy. Totally not my intention!! :-)

    3. Oh no not at all! If you are preaching then it's definitely to the choir, I'm always the one wringing my hands over waste and environmental impact. Sometimes though, you just 'gotta light up a tree and hope it ends up as mulch :)

  4. Ohhhh - you found some Christmas cheer. Mine is still nowhere to be found - there is just too much on to even think about it at the moment around here.

I do love your tree though and those lights are gorgeous.

    Ho, ho, ho!

    1. Well, I wanted not to think about it but my husband forced it upon me, and now the smell of pine is nice. Hope you find your cheer, or embrace just skipping it this year :)

  5. Very pretty. I like the lights. My ornaments are now done, but there is a mess on the table and the floor still to clean up. I work in baby steps. ;)

  7. Your tree looks amazing! I love those bigger white globe lights! We just stuck with little white lights and a random smattering of ornaments, many very tacky, but the boys love them!

  9. Beautiful! We are strictly Frasier fir lovers, too. And our tree is quite wonky, so you might love it, too. I love your big white bulbs! I like white lights, and Brian loves color, so we each get a tree. We're a little kookoo for Christmas :)
