Snapshot:47

little me and santa at macy's, nyc / christmas 1981-ish

I'm not sure what is more troubling about this picture, the glazed doughnut look on both our faces or the two and a half inches of leg hair Santa is sporting.

I tried to get Little Smith to do the Santa bit this year, but he let me know that there was no flipping way. I can't say I blame him, because these Santa's are really pretty creepy. I hardly want to go near them, let alone sit on their lap. Still, it's kind of classic in the 'so bad it's good' way... maybe next year!

  1. Oh I love it! Is Santa a real man? ;) Bijou is super keen this year but we'll see how we go when it comes to crunch time. A big, red clad booming man...mmmm! Hope your days are lovely :) x

  4. Oh dear Lord his pants are killing me! Too funny! You look so sweet :) My daughter is 4 years old and can't wait to go and see the all too famous man! Last year she gave up her dummy to the reindeer and she still likes the man!

  5. LOL too too funny!! I was never in to sitting on Santa's lap or visiting with Disney characters or *gulp* clowns...I could tell that there wasn't something quite right about them. I have many a picture of me as a child with a wide variety of costumed characters over the years, all with the same look you display in this photo lol!!

  7. LOOK how precious your little flannel shirt is and your boots!!! Your mama had some style too.

I'm gonna steal that idea to post an old photo with Santa.

Your little heart-shaped face is beyond adorable.

  8. Holy CRAP! It's wyatt! This picture is so cute. I was never a huge fan of Santa's lap and think we're probably going to skip it for Gus. We do have a santa head my grandma made from half a bleach bottle and some yarn... maybe we'll take a yearly picture with that? Ha!

  9. That is indeed a classic photo. I can understand the look on your face. You were just a kid. But, what's wrong with Santa? Did he zone out or what? He definitely puts the creepy in Santa.

  11. And the dolls in the background add just the right amount of uneasiness - haha - too funny. But you look absolutely adorable! Your outfit is so cute! And yes, this looks SO much like Wyatt.

I say creepy Santa photos are a classic must. ;)

  13. You look on the verge of terrified! But so adorable, all the same. We have never taken our son to meet Santa. Maybe this year? Dread it though I may, we do have one trip to the mall to make.... so it could happen.

  14. Ah! The leg hair is so strange! We too decided against subjecting our boy to a Santa pic this first Christmas of his. :) They are often so funny to look back on, though.

  15. What an adorably creepy photo! You do look very sweet (although somewhat bewildered). We've gone back and forth about the obligatory Santa photo, but so far we've steered clear. Thanks for posting this photo! I actually laughed out loud.
