Snapshot:45

harvest festival, stockbridge ma / october 2011
One year ago today I wrote my very first blog post. I didn't really have a sense of what this space would be, but I wanted to be more diligent about recording images and thoughts during this special time at home with my son. I was also coming to terms with that decision to stay home and still searching to make sense of it all.
I'm pretty shy and don't usually like to self-congratulate, but I am really proud of this journal. It's an amazing thing to have an archive of so many little moments that would have easily been forgotten. As any of you who keep up blogs of your own know, it takes a lot of work, lots of late nights, and making that commitment to myself that it's worth the time. I'm so happy that I have stuck with it.
The greatest surprise perk in keeping this digital journal, has been 'meeting' such a great community of inspiring women. Some of you have been here nearly every day, five days a week, watching Little Smith grow, get hair and teeth, watching me try to stumble my way through motherhood and a few recipes. In that time I have also had the pleasure of sharing in many of your daily lives, seeing your kids get bigger, getting inspiration on parenting, fashion, art, cooking, and so much more. I truly value these friendships.
Thank you all so much for following along, whether you are a fellow blogger friend, or just silently reading, I am honored that you have shared in this year with our little Smith family. Stick around and see what trouble we can find in 2013!

  7. Such a great photo of you and Little Smith.

Blogging, at times, can feel like a chore but I always try to remember why I do it. Not for the number of followers or page views but so that we can look back at all that we've done over the years. Glad you feel the same way. Keep it up. I love reading what you have to say.

    XO.

  10. Congratulations on a major milestone. I am mostly a silent reader, but love your blog. Your photos are wonderful, the philosophy on life is great and I think you project a realistic and amazing view on being a stay at home mom. I have been blogging for almost 6 years now about my family, but mostly for distant family and friends viewing pleasure. I am lucky if I update 3-4 times a months, so I can imagine it is tough to do daily. You do a wonderful job at it and it will be an amazing memento for Little Smith when he gets older.

  11. Such an awesome post. I love my daily reads, yours included. When I found your blog you SO reminded me of myself. Down to your blue hunter boots, which I live in. I don't have any children yet and I'm a nursing student so my life is rather bland but I look forward to making my currently private blog public and join the world bloggers. I am shy as well which is why i am keeping a private journal for now until I get comfortable and find my "voice" ;). Your boy is so adorable I have so enjoyed watching him grow. I would rather be disconnected from the world of technology most of the time but its people like you who make it harder and harder. Oh, and Pinterest. Thank you for your commitment, hopefully one day you will be able to meet me through my blog!

  17. Your blog is simply amazing to say the least. You're a natural! I enjoy reading your post because they are just simple yet touching, fun, and just show how wonderful parenting can be and is. As a mother to be (I have about 3 weeks left now!!!) this blog has definitely been of great help in transitioning into this new chapter. Although I have yet to meet my boy and truly know the feeling of a mother in all its definition, carrying this baby for nearly 9 months (& hoping for it to be a full term) has been such a metamorphosis and by far the greatest task in my life. For me (I'm only 21) you are a role model, and a great example of the power of a mother's love. Keep up the great work & congrats on your one year!
