My rhythm has been off this week. Life is good, I just have felt off balance and can't quite find the right pace. I haven't slept well and my mind is busy. I'm blaming the time change and election excitement, but I'm not sure that's really it.

Teaching in the evening is requiring a little more motivation now that the days are short and the air is cold. In the summer leaving the house for the city at 6PM feels liberating, a treat... now it's dark and I'd rather get in my jammies and curl up by the fire. Big Smith has been working hard and long hours. He comes home buzzing with energy and ready to chat, and I am exhausted and can barely feign interest. It's the reverse of our usual roles, where I am desperate for adult conversation and he just wants to chill after a long day.

I have a giant backlog of projects that I'd like to tackle and haven't made progress on any of them. I know I have a long winter ahead of me and plenty of time, but my internal clock is frantic. I'm not really sure why. I think my writing here on the blog has also been a little aimless. I'm working on it, maybe you didn't notice (don't tell me if you did- I'm in no mood for honesty!).

On the other hand, Little Smith is more fun than ever. He is finding new words each day and always makes me laugh exactly when I really need to. I think two is actually going to be a great age. I may be deluding myself- but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

This week-end should be relaxing, we don't have much planned and that's just exactly the way I want it. A couple of days to hang out with my guys and just recharge. Happy Friday!

  1. Yup, its that time of the semester. For what its worth, I enjoy the ebb & flow of your blog-- it seems natural, not aimless.
And as to kids, every age has its perks & drawbacks. Two is fun, primarily because they are starting to discover they can control the world around them-- like making you laugh. Of course, then there is the tantrums-in-public-places/"no" side of that discovery, but all in good time!

  3. Sometimes I feel like I slip behind and it can take weeks to catch up again - and that happens mostly fall and winter, almost never during summer. Out of balance is a good choice of words I think! :-)

I love your blog like it is, no matter how you blog - it´s real if you know what I mean. :-)

  4. What is that AWESOME thing Little S is standing in at the sink? What a brilliant idea. Did you buy or make it?

Sometimes I wonder why I write. Do I have interesting things to say? Do I make stuff that is cool? Do I take nice photos? Who knows. Ultimately I remember that I write my blog so that we have a record of the goings-on in our life. So that, in 20 years, we can look back and remember the details that would most likely be forgotten.

Your blog, your photos are wonderful. xo.

    1. It's called a 'learning tower' and it's the best. They're ridiculously expensive, but I lucked out with this one at a yard sale for $40. Check 'garden moms' or Craigslist if you want one, I imagine they all hold up pretty well and would be re-sold.

Thanks for the encouragement! I definately agree about the primary reason for writing and sharing pictures here is to have the record, so I keep on keepin' on even when I'm not sure what I'm saying :)

  6. Little Smith is so cute I could eat him up! (Why do women say that? I don't know but that's how he makes me feel.) I don't find your blog aimless. I call it a "lifestyle blog" (like mine) because it doesn't fall into a particular category. I think the weather/change of seasons might have something to do with your mood. I find it hard right now too. Take care! Joann

  7. He looks just so mischievous. You are right: two will be wonderful! It certainly comes with challenges, but I think that this is the age when I first began to really know who my son is, his true personality.

  8. your boy is SO SO cute.

we have had a weird week too, and I'm also blaming it on the time change and then the election excitement/emotion hangover. and I have the same issue with my husband (that I feel so guilty about): he wants to talk at the end of the day, I just want to draw or watch TV and go to bed. it's hard to feel like all my personality and energy gets used up by two little ones all day long.

this comment feels aimless... :) but your blog isn't. i enjoy it!
