looking for geese mid-painting working away jasmine (i think?) arranging gourds monkey shrieks watching fall mom's prized dahlias night owl

Is it really Friday already? I am still reliving last week and wondering if I accomplished anything at all in this one. These are a few images from our vacation at my mom's, most of these were actually one afternoon wherein Little Smith and I played on the porch, rolling around gourds from the garden and gazing at geese while Big Smith painted the house (which came out really beautiful and I wish I had a full 'after' picture but the rain kept preventing it).

I am woefully behind in updating this space. I still have so many pictures from last week that I really want to share, plus we are celebrating Big Smith's birthday this week-end which means I'll have some recipes for treats (cranberry coffee cake and birthday cake too provided it works out)... I may need to find time to post this week-end to squeeze it all in. I'll try.

It's cold here today and I have the heat cranking which is always a big mark that winter is on the way. I am also realizing that I am not very inspired by any of my cold weather clothes. I've gained a few pounds since I stopped breastfeeding and summer dresses were more forgiving than everything that barely zips which I am finding at the back of my closet. I guess in a few weeks it will be so cold  that I can just throw a giant sweater over half zipped skirts and call it a day :)

Happy week-end, and hopefully I'll be back with some more pictures (for anyone can stand it)!

  2. Great shots of "home." That mirror is very similar to a mirror on one of my childhood dressers that now resides in Fletcher's room. It is an antique, I'm guessing your mom's is, also.

    1. Thanks, yes I would bet the mirror is antique, everything in my mom's house is at least 50 years old... We got an Ikea highchair to have there and it's like an alien space ship landed it's so out of place :)

  4. Oh no. I was hoping to lose those last 5 pounds when I STOPPED breastfeeding (I've heard your body holds onto a bit).

I guess I need to give up my daily baked good habit.

Love the chill in the air! xo.

    1. Ha ha, don't worry, I think every woman's body adjusts to bf differently and this was just my luck. Actually while I was bf-ing I couldn't keep the weight on and kept losing and losing until I was under my pre-baby weight... then as he slowed down on nursing I got back up to what I would call my healthiest weight. Now I'm a little over what I'd like... but I'm not concerned enough to stop those baked goods :) I'm sure in your case your body is holding on, and with how fit you are I say baked goods galore!

I love the one of the leaves and also of the flower - and your mum's sun room looks like the perfect place to spend an afternoon.
