thrifted toy airplane / september 10, 2011

We stopped at our favorite vintage shop when we were up in New Hampshire and Big Smith finally snagged this toy plane that we've been visiting for three years. We first saw it when I was pregnant, it was the week before we learned we were having a boy and I was hesitant to buy anything not gender neutral (and I guess a plane is gender neutral... but it felt boyish to me). Last year we saw it again and we hemmed and hawed but then walked away. When it was still sitting there this year, it just seemed like it was meant to come home with us. It's not a great collector's item, but we love it and Big Smith lit up like a kid on Christmas when he had it in hand. Little Smith is obsessed and we look forward to finding a special spot in his room for our plane to live.

  1. We bought a plane for our son too, but it is imitation vintage. And, it is sitting on his floor (for about three years). I want to have it hang from the ceiling but we never seem to get around to it! :) Add to that an actual vintage plane that was my brother's, and we have two planes now sitting on the floor.

  2. 3rd time's a charm! How fun! We have a vintage fire truck with similar sentiment (although Theo is a plane lover!)

  4. The best toys are those with a story behind them!

  5. Such a cool old plane. It's great to be able to buy things that make you feel happy.
