Mini Moments + Dash of Insomnia

I love these short weeks, they really are over in a flash and this one was filled with lots of family time (hurray!) and very little sleep for me (sad face). I haven't been sleeping well, I know I've mentioned before that I struggle with some kind of mild insomnia and it's been in high gear the last few weeks. I was falling asleep at 1AM and then it started slipping later and later and now I routinely am still up until 3-4AM... I know, not good. When I first wake up I'm brutally tired, but once I get out of bed I actually do feel okay on the two to four hours of sleep I'm getting. Maybe I just don't really need sleep...the circles under my eyes however do not agree with this theory.

I think the shift in seasons can be a time when I'm extra restless, lots to do and I feel like I have to race to finish it all before the weather changes. Big Smith and I were both moping about how little camping we did this summer, and we decided that instead of just complaining about it we'd fix the problem by taking a last hurrah trip this week-end. We're going up to NH for some hiking and campfires and I'm hoping the fresh air and stars over my head will be the perfect recipe for some good shut-eye. I'm pretty excited to finish off the summer this way, and off to assemble the camping gear- happy week-end!

  1. woo for family time! that stinks that you're not getting a lot of sleep lately, but I'm glad you're still surviving.

I hope your last hurrah of camping is refreshing and just what you need :)

  2. I've been trying to chisel out one last camping trip for us, too. These silly school schedules have gotten in the way. ;) As for the mild-insomnia - I take the homeopathic formula Calms Forte before I go to bed at night. I find that it really helps. Hopefully this weekend's fresh air will bring you so much needed rest. Enjoy!

  4. I feel for you; I´ve never been what others might call a sound sleeper - most of the time I sleep too little. I hope you´ll get your sleep in order!

  6. I hope you guys have a fantastic trip! You guys are always welcome to come get your camp on in our new backyard. :) We've been toying with the idea ourselves.. But I'm not sure if I'm willing to go through the trouble of it all with Gus just to be in our backyard. Am I no fun?

    1. Thanks Julie, I always wanted to camp in my yard as a kid but it is tough to motivate when the warm bed is right there! Could be fun though if you're up for it :)

  8. I'm so sorry to hear that you are not sleeping. That is crazy-making. I hope camping will help-- maybe it will jumpstart your system or something?

  10. You might try taking some magnesium for sleep. We use Natural Calm powder if any of us can't are restless (including the kids). Jealous of your camping trip. We did not go even once this summer.

  12. I hope you are able to get some decent sleep soon. Daily life, and especially being a caregiver, is so hard to do without adequate rest. Have you tried melatonin spray? We bought some at Whole Foods, and you spray 3 pumps under your tongue at bedtime. We also make a ton of chamomile tea for Julian because he has had insomnia lately. I'm sure you've tried everything already though. :(
