Lonesome Lake

This hike was pure perfection; trailing behind my two favorite guys as we climbed a rocky path, a misting of rain, and that magical air as summer gives way to fall. We rested a few moments at Lonesome Lake, surrounded by mountains and afternoon light, then scrambled back to our campsite to beat the rain.

It was one of those simple outings where everyone was just content and grateful to be together in a beautiful place. It doesn't happen as often as it should, but this is a memory that I'll hold onto.

Spending the rest of the night dealing with the pouring rain at our campsite did not fall into that pure perfection category... but hey, you can't win 'em all!

  1. My husband and I were also commenting on how we haven't been camping AT ALL this summer. I know many people do, but we were not ready to camp with a 5 month old. Props to those who can!

    Glad you all had fun!

  2. Oh, I remember when my rascals were small enough to carry on my back - I'd never manage to do that now! :-D

  7. How sweet! Matt took Owen on a camping trip for 3 days, and he loved it! Now all he talks about is "backpack" "open mountain" and "rock."

  9. I love what an outdoors kind of family you are. It's so great to teach kids at an early age to appreciate nature.
