sweaty little head ginormous bubbles beech tree cave relaxing happy picnic flying

A few scenes from our picnic lunch at the museum last week. There was the most enormous cave inside of a cluster of american beech trees that lured us all away from our food and kept us covered in dirt and out of the sun on a crazy hot day. There's some kind of magic being under the canopy of a huge tree, perfect light.

These summer days are slipping away and I am really starting to feel fall at our heels. Tonight I had a faculty meeting and I start teaching again next week. I have to remind myself that September is still wonderful weather and it doesn't start getting cold for a while here (and of course the cold has its charm too).

We are packing right now for our final little trip of the summer, heading out to Martha's Vineyard for a long week-end to meet up with some of my family. It should be lots of fun, but we're walking onto the boat, so figuring out how to haul the car seat and beach gear is a little puzzle that's being worked out as I type. Good thing we both love a good puzzle!

  4. Those beach carts are worth the price. You can get them at Christmas Tree shops and even grocery stores. We finally bought one this year (our boys are 7 &9) and they have been such a help for beach treks.

  6. I'm not sure if there's anything cuter than sweaty headed babies.

Martha's Vineyard! I was just telling Wade that I can't wait until we are able to get a minivan and do road trips to cool places like M.V. with our kids.

  8. Love these photos! Looks like under the beech trees is where's it's at! Have a wonderful late summer vacation - Martha's Vineyard is on my list. Even though it's been a bazillion degrees lately I still have a hard time letting go of summer.

p.s. Your kale pesto and zucchini carrot bread look amazing!
