No Chores on Powder Days

I had planned on taking some pictures yesterday for a 'fun little things' post that I'd mentally scheduled for today... and then we got ourselves some snow! It's not much, in fact most winters I would call this a dusting. But in this crazy year, where somebody out there has decided to be stingy with the snowflakes, this is a bona fide powder day.

So even though Little Smith decided not to take a morning nap and was a sour-puss and I had so much laundry to tackle that swimsuits were passing for underwear, after reading this post on Katie's blog, I decided to seize the day and get outside.

Big Smith is obsessed with skiing and early in our dating days he liked to invoke the expression, "no friends on powder days" or actually I think he would say "no girlfriends on powder days"... basically letting me know that I came in a distant second to the ski report. I like a man with his passions so I was always cool with that and it was kind of a joke between us. Now that he's a slave to his job (albeit a creative job that he loves) it's been a long time since he's actually blown off all of his responsibilities for a good day in the snow. He would have loved this day with us so I toasted to him with my thermos of tea on our long walk around all the parks in the neighborhood.

And it seemed like Little Smith, who was not so happy in the snow the last go around, caught the spirit too. He loved it and ran in circles screaming "dada" at the top of his lungs and falling every tenth step. When it was time to go he freaked out and had one of the worst fits I've ever seen so maybe he has inherited the snow fever after all.

This morning I'm faced with chores from yesterday on top of chores for today plus some classes and other commitments, but since the little snow we have is giving way to rain I'm pretty darn pleased to have made a leap day memory for 2012! And now we'd kind of be happy to let the snow go and bring on the spring. Sorry snow.

  1. Good for you. That laundry can wait just one more day!

  2. Way to seize the (powder) day! Little Smith looks like he is just having a ball in that snow. The chores will always be there, but leap/snow day must be taken advantage of!

  3. Looks fun, and what a good memory! The day your little became a snow convert.
